New exhibit opens Friday at FAC

The Fine Arts Center of Hot Springs presents the art exhibit Self Portraits – Artists Interpretations of Oneself during the month of October. The FAC curators selected forty-one artworks from the one hundred ten artworks submitted from across the country.

The curators were looking for artwork that not only worked well as an individual piece but also displayed well with the entire exhibit. The show includes a variety of styles, mediums and techniques to create a statement about the contemporary application of this historic genre. The exhibit includes traditional poses in self-portraits, statements regarding cultural backgrounds, relationships with self and others, humorous situations, and some inner-reflection pieces.

Jeri Hillis, Johnce Parrish, and Patricia Collins created the self-portrait art installation that is in the FAC window. This interactive artwork explores facial features and how they express emotion and defines oneself.

The Arkansas artists that have artwork in the exhibit are Paloma Anderson – Malvern, Endia – Bryant, Bob Dion – Hot Springs, Rita Earles – Arkadelphia, Janet Gade Malone – Hot Springs, Mehreen Khalid – Little Rock, Amber Lemser – DeQueen, Johnce Parrish – Glenwood, Rashawn Penister – Pine Bluff, Mary Ann Stafford – Maumelle, Leon Wartinger – Little Rock, and Markeith Woods – Pine Bluff. The exhibit also includes many out of state artists.

Self Portraits – Artists Interpretations of Oneself runs Friday, Oct. 5 through Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012. The Fine Arts Center of Hot Springs is located at 626 Central Avenue and open from 10:30 am until 5:00 pm Tuesday – Saturday. The gallery is also open until 9:00 pm during Hot Springs Bluegrass Thursdays Jams, Gallery Walk, and on 3rd Fridays @ FAC.
